Stop Press!!

The Jazz Den has reverted back to its own audio server. We are pleased to report that the recent hardware issues have been addressed, and normal services have resumed. We are also now streaming in MP3 Pro, for both dial-up and broadband users. As well as in Windows Media 9.0. See the appropriate sections of this page for details.

Broadband Has Arrived, 13 June 2003.

At last we are pleased to say we now have ADSL, so will be able to stream in much improved quality.

We hope you enjoy the improved audio. However, if you are a dial-up user, don't despair! We will soon be offering two streams, one for broadband and the other for 56K modem dial-up users.

Taking a break from ACB Radio Interactive - April 15th 2003

Please note that, due to family illness, I will be taking a break from ACB Radio Interactive for a few weeks from Good Friday, 18th April 2003.

My radio station will continue, to the best of my ability during this time.
Thank you for your support which is much appreciated.

What-s been going on - 10th April 2003

It's been some time since I've got round to updating the website homepage, but the radio station's been on for most of the time.

This has been due to various family problems, but, on a more positive note, also because we have been starting up our new business. If you're interested, go to
Essentially Natural's new web site.
The station is on automatic playlist for most of the time, but I do get on the mic when ever I can, and have been known to give dedications or play requests if I'm contacted, so give it a try.

The Jazz Den Discontinued On Live365.

For financial reasons, and in order to conserve our server’s bandwidth, we have discontinued the feed of The Jazz Den on Live365. Whilst we did pick up several listeners from a number of countries, the cost cannot be justified. Also, listeners on the Live365 stream were not able to see the title of the track currently playing, so it will be much better for them to tune in using their favourite player, accessing The Jazz Den's server directly.

DJDen Every Week on ACB Radio Interactive

DJDen is pleased to announce that ‘The Jazz Den’ is on air every Friday from 10.00 to 12.00UTC (Note the new times please), that’s 10 a.m.-12 Noon UTC, on
the American Council of the Blind’s Interactive radio station.
This is one of four streams run by
ACB Radio;
The other streams are:
Mainstream
programming mainly of interest to the blind,
The Café
a non-stop showcase of tracks by blind musicians and vocalists,
Treasure-trove
for the best in classic drama and comedy, and
ACBRI
ACB Radio's Interactive stream, run 'by the blind for the world'.

Programming on this stream is now 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a full range of musical genres, including, of course, jazz.

To listen to the station, go to the web site and follow the links - you can even choose your player and the type of stream you want. Not only do they cater for modem and broadband, but they also have a new Vorbis (OGG) stream as well as the usual .mp3 stream which means that even 28.8k modem users can listen in
glorious hi fidelity stereo! Please note that the Vorbis streams are purely experimental at present, and may be subject to change or some down time.

So remember, Fridays 10.00-12.00 UTC on ACB Radio Interactive for DJDen in The Jazz Den, where jazz is cool!

Mailing Lists At The Jazz Den

We now have two mailing lists for announcing such things as on-air times, live broadcasts, and, of course, times when the station will be down for maintenance. You may also discuss any aspect of The Jazz Den, related to music selection, presentation, or anything else you may wish to raise, provided it is related to the station.

The first of these lists is a read-only list, with very low traffic. If you would like to subscribe to this list, please send a blank message to
announce-subscribe@thejazzden.org.uk

You will be sent an authentication request automatically by the server. Simply reply to this message, without modifying anything ... that is very very important ... and you will then be able to receive station announcements.

If you would like to subscribe to the discussion list, please send a blank message to
discuss-subscribe@thejazzden.org.uk

Jazz at The Met Café Bar is no longer!

Unfortunately, owing to lack of finance and poor support, we are no longer able to promote local jazz musicians at The Met Café Bar in Bury. Originally a weekly event, this had to change to a once-a-month occasion and, even so, was not profitable enough to pay for overheads, let alone to pay the musicians.

We are keeping this in mind though, and perhaps something may come up in 2003.

Not all is lost, however – you can still hear many of the musicians on the radio station, and you can always buy their CD’s if you like the music, which will repay our local musicians in a small way.
Email me for details.
